Employment Forum on 5 years of Unity Statute

On 13 December 2018, Van Olmen & Wynant organised an Employment Forum with the Institute for Company Lawyers on the results and challenges related to the introduction of the Unity Statute (Eenheidsstatuut / Statut Unique) 5 years ago. The Unity Statute was mainly meant to harmonise notice periods for blue-collar and white-collar employees, but it brought with many different modifications of existing legislation and new provisions.

Guest speaker Professor Daniël Cuypers (Antwerp University) and Nicolas Simon (partner at Van Olmen & Wynant) presented an overview of the grand “construction site” of the Unity Statute, while focussing on the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court and the current and future discussions, mainly on the dismissal clauses for higher employees and the outplacement rules. Next, they had a look at the to-do’s: i.e. the aspects that the Unity Statute did not tackle, and which might lead to further legislative interventions.

This successful Employment Forum, which took place in De Warande in Brussels, was attended by 50 employment professionals.
