Employment Forum (05/07) on upcoming reforms of reintegration procedure of long-term ill employees

Right at the start of the summer, on 5 July 2022, Van Olmen & Wynant organised an Employment Forum about the upcoming reforms of the reintegration procedure for long-term ill employees. The Federal government is working on the legislative framework for the new rules as the new system is expected to enter into force in the second half of this year.

The event, organised in collaboration with the Belgian Institute for Company Lawyers (IBJ/IJE) at De Warande in Brussels atracted more than 80 in-house counsels, HR mangers, magistrates and academics. Van Olmen & Wynant had the great honour to welcome mr. Rudi Delarue, President of the National Labour Council (NAR/CNT) as a guest speaker. The in-house expertise was provided by our senior employment associate Gautier Busschaert.

Mr. Delarue gave an overview of the legislative draft proposals, the advice and views of the national social partners, and strong and weak points of the upcoming reforms, while framing the new rules in their wider legal and political (social policy) context.

Next, Gautier Busschaert focused on the proposed new procedure for the reintegration process (deadlines, different steps, main players...) on the one hand and the new rules for the termination of the employment contract due to medical force majeure on the other hand.

The presentations were concluded with a very active Q&A session. It is clear that this is a very important subject for the world of work.

If you have burning questions regarding the upcoming reforms, please contact Gautier Busschaert (gautier.busschaert@vow.be).
